We help you to deal with and recover from the physical and emotional effects of the assault. We aim to give you the information you need to take control and make the best choices for you.

Everything you do at your Haven appointment is up to you – you choose which, if any, of our services you want to use. We want you to feel comfortable with your decisions and will support you whatever choices you make.

You can use our services without having to report the assault or rape to the police, unless you are under 13.

But if you do decide to report what happened, we can advise you and guide you through the process. You decide how involved the police are: no contact at all, an informal chat, a full report – it’s up to you.

We can offer you:

  • First aid and advice.
  • Emergency contraception.
  • Specialist support and practical advice.
  • A forensic medical examination to collect evidence about the assault. It’s up to you if you want this – you do not have to have one.
  • Medical aftercare including testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
  • Specialist support that includes counselling, psychology and advocacy, to help you in the days and months after the assault.

You can also get advice and help from other support organisations.
